Karachi Blues crush ZTBL, Ahmed scores 161 for HBL


KARACHI: Karachi Blues, as expected, completed an innings and 12-run win over Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in the Faysal Bank Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Division I match at the National Stadium here on Saturday.

ZTBL, resuming at 174-6, added just 22 runs for the loss of remaining four wickets in 8.1 overs on the fourth and final day.

Zohaib Khan finished undefeated on a defiant 74 as all-rounder Tariq Haroon claimed three of the wickets to end with 4-51.

Karachi Blues skipper Mohammad Sami bowled tailender Mohammad Khalil to finish with excellent figures of five for 37 in 16 overs.

Karachi Blues, who badly lost to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in their opening match, now prepare to meet Wapda in the next round from Tuesday at the same venue.

Wapda, meanwhile, overwhelmed Faisalabad by seven wickets at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha as the overnight pair of Aamir Sajjad (72) and captain Rana Naved-ul-Hasan (93) extended their unbroken partnership to 160 after their started at 205-3 in pursuit of a target of 259.

But Wapda got only six points since they conceded a first-innings lead of 84 to Faisalabad when they unexpectedly collapsed for 133 on the second day.

Discarded Pakistan opener Ahmed Shahzad set up a three-wicket win for defending champions Habib Bank against Abbottabad with a superb 161 at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium. The bankers successfully chased a daunting target of 367 with Ahmed striking 26 fours and one in his 162-ball knock.

Shan Masood also batted well to score 74, while partnering Ahmed in an opening stand of 234. Skipper Hasan Raza (36) and Danish Kaneria (24) were at the crease when the game finished.

The remaining three matches were drawn. Opener Naved Malik hit an unbeaten 139 as Rawalpindi reached 336-5 while chasing 354 against PIA at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Khurram Manzoor, yet another Pakistan reject, scored 107 as National Bank, fell 16 short of their 303-run target against Islamabad at the Diamond Club Ground.

Sialkot also took three points after drawing with State Bank of Pakistan at the Jinnah Stadium.
