Dengue attack Seven more dead


Lahore—Another seven people lost their lives due to dengue fever during the last 24 hours, of which, six died in Lahore and one in Gujranwala.

Director General Health Punjab Dr. Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry told media at a briefing here at King Edward Medical University on Wednesday said that besides taking effective steps for treatment of dengue patients and elimination of dengue mosquito at government level, various institutions are also conducting

research on dengue mosquito. He said that Institute of Public Health Lahore, Allama Iqbal Medical College and General Hospital have carried out research regarding Cerotype of dengue mosquito and two types of dengue i.e. D2 & D3 have been found.

Dr Aslam said that 15805 dengue patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals in Punjab so far, of which, 13499 belonged to Lahore. He said that, at present,

1454 patients are under treatment in different hospitals of the province, out of which, 1198 are in the hospitals of Lahore. As many as 299 confirmed dengue patients have been reported in Punjab during the last 24 hours, of which, 272 related to Lahore. The total number of dengue patients in the province has risen to 16021, of which, 13783 from Lahore.

Replying to a question, Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof. Asad Aslam Khan said that as per instructions of the government, senior consultants and professors are providing treatment to dengue patients in high dependency units and duty roaster regarding taking round of dengue wards from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm has also been issued. Prof. Asad Aslam disclosed that due to decreasing rush of dengue patients in Mayo Hospital, one ward out of eight of dengue has been closed.

DG Health Dr. Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry said that written instructions have been issued to the principals and MSs of all teaching hospitals to make binding senior consultants to examine the patients in the morning and evening. He said that in case of any complaint, action will be taken against those showing negligence in their duties. Moreover, CBC test of 233303 patients were conducted free of cost in 10 blood centres set up in Lahore.

Dr. Aslam Chaudhry informed that six cell separators have been provided in various hospitals and institutions for providing best treatment facilities to the dengue patients which included Institute of Blood Transfusion, Services Hospital Lahore, Benazir Hospital Rawalpindi, Nishter Hospital Multan, Bahawal Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur and Sheikh Zayed Hospital Rahim Yar Khan.
