SARGODHA: Former law minister Senator Dr Babar Awan said on Wednesday that Punjab’s rulers were busy in grabbing official lands instead of improving law and order situation, and fighting dengue virus in the province.
Addressing a rally staged in support of President Asif Ali Zardari by Pakistan People’s Party, Babar Awan said that it was the country’s misfortune when PPP founder Chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto sacrificed his life in 1977 and protected the national institutions and democracy, whereas Sharif brothers fled to Jeddah by begging pardon from dictator Pervez Musharraf
.
He lamented the Punjab government for bad governance, saying that the law and order situation has worsened.
‘Daku Raj’ prevailed in the province as scores of incidencts of kidnapping, robbery and murder were taking place daily.
On the other hand the Punjab rulers were busy in grabbing government lands. They had recently swindled land in the name of “Khizarabad Form” in Shahpur Tehsil at cheap rates, he alleged.
President of PPP Punjab Imtiaz Safdar Warriach said that Sharif brothers were conspiring against democratic institutions and if again misfortune came then they would run away from the country by leaving their supporters and workers in the lurch.
He said that the Punjab rulers had done nothing for controlling the dengue virus as about 300 people died in Lahore and over 25,000 dengue patients admitted in hospitals while the Chief Minister was spending millions of rupees on his personal publicity.
Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz Ahmad and former minister of state Tasneem Ahmad Qureshi also addressed the rally.
