Fasih Bokhari takes over
as NAB chief

SLAMABAD — Former chief of Pakistan Navy Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari on Monday took over as new chairman of country’s main anti-graft body — the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) — and pledged to “come up to the expectations of the nation”.
His appointment was formally notified on Sunday after President Zardari rejected objections raised by leader of the opposition, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, to the process of appointment. Khan contended that the constituion had made it compulsory for the president to consult the opposition on the appointment.  Instead he was sent one name as a fait accompli defying the spirit of meaningful consultation laid down by the constitution.

With the appointment of Admiral Bokhari to the post which had been lying vacant since the removal of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah in March this year, the premier accountability organisation of the country became functional again after three months of inaction. Bokharfi had a briefing from top officials of the bureau on arrival at its bmain office here.
